ENVIRONMENT

We take care of the environment

AEQUORA Lanzarote Suites is located in a privileged environment, which is why we feel responsible for taking care of the destination where we are.

Aware of the importance of effective environmental management that preserves our environment, we try to transfer this philosophy to our employees and customers.

Will you help us? We would like to suggest some ideas to help preserve the environment during your stay:

  • Please turn off the lights that you are not going to use, use the recycling bins that you can find around the hotel, review our towel change policy and make proper use of water.
  • In each pool you will find a collection point for reusable material. Please deposit the glasses and plates from the pool bar in them

Fresh water tends to be scarce in the Canary Islands. That is why we ask everyone to be careful with the use of water. did you know If 500 people don't leave the water running while brushing their teeth, at least 50,000 liters of water will be saved every week.

  • Towels will be changed if you leave them on the bathroom floor. If you prefer to reuse them, the environment will thank you. This saves considerable amounts of electricity, detergent and water.
  • Changes of pool towels are made from Monday to Saturday (at the Wellness Center) and on Sundays (at the reception) from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Do not change them daily and together we will help to use less water!

Our digital card system helps save electricity by noticing when you leave your room. Please note that the minibar and the socket next to your desk will always remain active.

Aequora Lanzarote Suites is certified with the Travelife Gold Award.

Travelife is an independent, internationally recognized sustainability awards program for the tourism industry. Around 100 criteria are evaluated, including fair wages for staff and measures to minimize energy and water use, reduce waste and give preference to local suppliers.

FIRE & SAFETY

All rooms are equipped with a smoke detector.  Aequora Lanzarote has fire extinguishers and clearly marked evacuation routes. If you need special assistance in the event of an emergency due to physical disability or any other kind of problem, please speak with the reception when checking in.

If you need more information, you can request it at our reception or at our Holiday Concierge.

Please read the following important safety points carefully:

  • Do not smoke in your room and all indoor areas.
  • Familiarize yourself with your room’s location in the building as soon as you arrive.
  • Study the evacuation plan and familiarize yourself with the nearest evacuation point.
  • Count the number of doors between your room and the nearest evacuation route. This will help to find your way in case of limited visibility.
  • Check the locations of fire alarms and fire extinguishers.

If you discover or smell a fire:
Alert the reception immediately. If the corridor is full of smoke, stay in your room. Take your room key/key card if you leave the room. You may be blocked by smoke or fire and need to turn back. In the event of a minor fire in a limited space, use a fire extinguisher. If you are unable to put out the fire, close the door to the burning room.

If the fire alarm rings:Please follow the instructions as part of the evacuation information.

If you are unable to leave your room:
Call the reception and tell them you are still in your room. Seal the ventilation openings and the gaps around the door with wet towels to prevent smoke from entering your room. Go to the window and attract the attention of passers-by. Open the window if the smoke inside the room becomes too thick. Do not jump from the balcony. Wait for instructions from the Emergency Services. In a smoke-filled room you can see best and breathe most easily close to the floor.

FLORA AND FAUNA
LANZAROTE SPECIES

Due to the oceanic, climate and geological characteristics of the Canary Islands, among other factors, there is a great variety of species in the archipelago. Many of them are endemic or are endangered species. Almost half of the total of the wild endemic vascular flora species of Spain and near 40% of the invertebrate fauna are in the Canary Islands.

Given that the human activities developed in the Islands sometimes are dangerous and risky for the animal and plant life, the Council of Territorial Politics and Environment of the Canary Government promulgated a Law, which created the Catalogue of Species Threatened in Canary Islands, which classified species depending on the risk that they were in. Besides, it lays down the way of managing the situation and the creation of plans of recovery and conservation of species. The Catalogue of Species Threatened in Canary Islands is available online on the Canary Islands Government website.

Nevertheless, as a first approximation, bear in mind some of the following considerations about threatened and endangered species that live in Lanzarote, and be careful when you move around their habitats, helping to preserve it and to protect these species.

PARDELAS

The island of Alegranza shelters an importat biological diversity, emphasizing its bird’s population. However, most of important populations of different species are threatened birds, considered in risk by regional, national and international governments and institutions.

Some of the species that live here are Bulwer’s petrel, pardela scopoli, little shearwater, white-faced storm petrel, european storm petrel and band-rumped storm petrel. Some greedy birds (osprey, Eleanora’s falcon, egyptian vulture and barbary falcon) Besides, this place is an important point of rest for the migratory birds in their migratory displacements.

THE HOUBARA

The houbara bustard or “avutarda” is an endengered bird, which remains approximately 1.000 exemplary. More than half of them live in Lanzarote. They live, mainly, in La Graciosa, Alegranza, Guatiza, Famara, Playa Quemada and the area between Janubio and Rubicon. Their main enemies and threats are human activities. That is why we should avoid, as far as possible, to drive with all-terrain vehicles along these zones, leave traces of garbage and any other activity that can disturb their natural habitats.

JAMEOS CRAB

The “jameito” is a blind crab which is endemic of Lanzarote. It can only live in some jameos, as Jameos del Agua. That is why it is in endangered. This animal, natural symbol of the island of Lanzarote, white-coloured, is especially sensitive to the light and the noise. In addition, metals are especially dangerous to it and because of that it is completely forbidden to throw coins into water at Jameos Del Agua and to the sea.

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FOOTPRINT
  • Do not practice the art of leaving your mark
  • Please respect the landscape and nature of Lanzarote
  • 42% of the surface is environmentally protected
  • Moving stones promotes erosion and loss of soil moisture
  • Moving the stones modifies the habitat of the fauna and flora of the island
Hoteles Amigos | UNICEF
